Sea of Riches Introduction

While piracy has existed since ancient times - from the Ancient Greeks to the Roman Empires and the Vikings of early medieval Europe - the true golden age of piracy took place from 1650 until 1720. Thousands of pirates were active in the seas during this time, with famous names including Henry Morgan, William 'Captain' Kidd, 'Calico' Jack Rackham, Bartholomew Roberts and the fearsome Blackbeard (Edward Teach). These colourful characters operated in the Pacific waters of the Caribbean islands, where they attacked ships laden with precious cargo collected in what was known as the New World. Such piracy came to an end in the 18th century, but it still exists today in some parts of the world, particularly in the South China Seas.

Now iSoftbet takes us back to the Golden Age of Piracy in Sea of Riches. This time around the quest for plunder takes place on a cluster slot set on a 6x6 grid. In case you are not familiar, cluster slots require you to form clusters (thus the name) of matching symbols that are adjacent or horizontally. In the case of Sea of Riches winning clusters require at least 5 symbols, which include precious stones and coins. That said, the game also has a level system based around completing the treasure map. Collecting 25 map pieces completes it and progresses you to the next level. Each level brings its own game modifier, which can kick in on any losing spin. Arr! Let's set sail and find out what Sea of Riches is all about!

Sea of Riches Game Features

Sea of Riches is a cluster slot with a 6x6 grid. Being a cluster slot wins are formed by landing 5 or more matching symbols that are touching either vertically or horizontally (or a combination of both). Symbols forming winning cluster disappear from the reels, allowing new ones to fall in their place in a cascade. This can bring about more wins, with cascades continuing until there are no more winning combinations on the grid. In addition, winning symbols charge up the Captain's Compass on the upper right-hand corner of the screen. Once full, this compass will trigger various modifiers which will be explained later on in this review. Alongside the gems and coins making the regular symbols, the grid also holds wilds with can replace all symbols except the bottles. Bottles hold map pieces, which are collected on the lower right-hand corner of the screen. Collecting 25 pieces completes the treasure map and advances you to the next level. There are 4 levels in total, and after level 4 you will be returned to the first level.

Sea of Riches Free Spins and Bonuses

Sea of Riches has a full range of interesting bonuses and game modifiers. The first of these are the Wild Seas Modifiers, which can be triggered randomly by any losing spin. Each level brings its own Wild Seas Modifier, and all add wilds to the grid. The Wild Kraken replaces 5-10 random symbols with wilds, the Wild Storm rips across the grid to turn 3-9 symbols wild, the Wild Whale splashes a pattern of 5 wilds on the grid and the Wild Ghostship adds 2-5 multiplier wilds.

In addition, the game has the Captain's Compass. This is filled with winning symbols according to the amount shown, and if a section is filled in a single spin it will trigger one of 4 of modifiers. In case it is not filled in the spin it resets back to zero. As for the modifiers brought about by a full compass, these are as follows:

  • Rolling Rum: 1-3 barrels transform 3-6 vertical symbols into the same symbol.
  • Musket Mayhem: 5-12 symbols are shot and removed from the grid.
  • Cannon Blast: 1-3 cannonballs are fired across the grid, removing entire rows of symbols.
  • Swarm o'Parrots: Parrots attack the reels, removing 10-15 symbols.

Charging up the compass with 48 symbols in a single spin earns you a round of Stormin' Free Spins. First you get to spin the ship's wheel in order to earn up to 15 free spins. During this round lightning can strike the compass and award you a win level multiplier. The compass can be struck up to 3 times on each winning spin, increasing the multiplier for the current win. Once any multipliers are applied to the current win the round multiplier resets back to 1x for the next spin.

Sea of Riches Payouts

The biggest cluster in Sea of Riches can reach 15+ matching symbols. In this case the red gem brings the biggest payout at up to 150x the stake, followed by the purple gem at up to 100x, the green gem at 50x and the blue gem at 40x. The five coins, on the other hand, are the low-paying symbols. The gold coin is worth up to 30x the bet, the silver 20x, the bronze 10x, the green 5x and the wood 3.75x.

Sea of Riches Graphics and Sound

iSoftbet brings a bold and colourful game here. The grid is set in front of an inviting tropical island vista, one that comes complete with blue skies and crystal clear waters. There is also a small pier occupied by the animated pirate character on the left-hand side of the screen. The grid itself is made out of wood, and holds small but detailed symbols. Everything is clearly designed, making the game easy to check out. That said, the visual effects come into play once any game modifiers are triggered, and these can get spectacular!

Sea of Riches Conclusion

Sea of Riches makes a fine addition to our selection of pirate-themed games! The highlight here is, of course, the various game modifiers, which can be triggered by either filling the compass or even getting a losing spin.
