Egypt's Book of Mystery Introduction

Ancient Egypt remains popular when it comes to inspiration for slots, so it should come to no surprise PG Soft also has such a game. Enter Egypt's Book of Mystery, a slot that, unlike what the name suggests, is actually not in the "Book of" style. Instead, Egypt's Book of Mystery is set on 6 reels, plus a 4-position horizontal reel set on top of the slot. Combined with symbols of variable sizes this allows for a variable number of paylines ranging from 2,025 all the way up to 32,400. The symbols forming these paylines will also disappear from the reels, bringing about a cascade as new symbols fall in their place to potentially bring about more paylines. Symbol transformations might also kick in during regular spins, as paying symbols might be randomly selected to replace 3 or more symbols on the reels before any wins are paid out. And that is not all, so let us make our way through the sandy dunes as we find out what Egypt's Book of Mystery is all about!

The Ancient Egyptians did not actually bind books as we know them today, since they instead made use of scrolls made from papyrus. That said, Egyptian texts are still referred to as books. The most famous of these is certainly the Book of the Dead, an ancient funerary text written and used from the beginning of the New Kingdom, around 1550 BCE. The Book of the Dead was placed in the coffin or burial chamber of the deceased as part of a funerary tradition that includes the earlier Pyramid and Coffin Texts. Texts differ from books, since these were painted on objects. As for what the Book of the Dead contains, it is essentially a series of spells providing the deceased with mystical knowledge necessary for the afterlife.

Egypt's Book of Mystery Game Features

Egypt's Book of Mystery is a slot featuring 6 reels, each with 2-5 rows. The number of rows per reel changes with each spin. Combined with the 4-position horizontal reel set on top of reels 2, 3, 4 and 5 this allows for anything from 2,025 to 32,400 paylines. Paylines are formed by landing 3 or more matching symbols on adjacent reels, starting from reel 1 and moving from left to right. Forming a win also triggers a cascade, as the symbols making the payline disappear from the reels and new ones fall in their place. This can lead to more winning combinations, and cascades continue until there are no more wins on the reels.

Symbols on the reels include the heads of the gods Horus and Anubis, as well as a snake, an Eye of Horus, an ankh and a pair of sceptres. Also found as the low pays are the familiar A, K, Q, J and 10 card royals. The golden pharaoh mask wild found on reels 2, 3, 4 and 5 can substitute for all symbols except the scatter, which is the book. This will trigger the free spins if you land 4 or more anywhere on the reels. During any spin symbols 2 to 4 rows tall can appear with a silver frame. If these silver-framed symbols make part of a win then they will be transformed into a random paying symbol with a gold frame. If this gold-framed symbol makes part of a win then it will transform into 2-4 wilds, depending on the size of the symbol, through PG Soft's Wilds-on-the Way feature. Furthermore, any spin might bring the Symbol Transformation Feature. This has any symbol (excluding wilds or scatters) randomly selected to replace 3 or more symbols on the reels before any wins are paid out.

Egypt's Book of Mystery Free Spins and Bonuses

Landing 4 or more book scatters will trigger the free spins feature. Before this starts, you get a choice of 4 different rounds - 15 free spins with a 1x starting multiplier, 10 free spins with a 5x starting multiplier, 5 free spins with a 10x starting multiplier and a mystery choice bringing a random combination of free spins and multiplier. During the free spins, every cascade increases the win multiplier by +1. The round can also be retriggered, with 3 or 4 scatters landed awarding you with +5 or +10 free spins respectively.

Egypt's Book of Mystery Payouts

Horus brings the biggest payout in Egypt's Book of Mystery at up to 80 coins for a full payline. Anubis follows at up to 50 coins. The cobra is worth up to 40 coins, the eye 30 coins and both ankh and sceptres 15 coins. Moving on to the low pays, the A and K can bring up to 10 coins and the Q, J and 10 up to 4.

Egypt's Book of Mystery Graphics and Sound

Egypt's Book of Mystery is set in PG Soft's typical vertical layout, which suits both the style of the slot and its subject matter really well. In the bottom you will spot the animated forms of Anubis and Horus flanking a flaming brazier, while on top is a pyramid. The slot itself is set in a typical Egyptian style, with reels carved out of rock holding the painted symbols. It also features rather satisfying animations whenever a cascade takes place, further adding to the entertainment value of the game.

Egypt's Book of Mystery Conclusion

While Ancient Egypt is hardly an original setting for a game, PG Soft still manages to put its own twist in Egypt's Book of Mystery. The variable rows and cascade mechanic bring plenty of fun, as does the Wilds-on-the Way system. Then there are the free spins with their progressive win multipliers!
